1,83,566 compete for 900 SBI clerical vacancies in TN

Chennai, Nov. 8 The entrance test for State Bank of India’s clerical posts would rank among the tougher entrance tests for aspirants.

The level of competition is high, as the successful candidate has to elbow out a lot more people than in many other similar competitive exams.

Look at the figures. The Common Admission Test (CAT) had about 3 lakh applicants last year while the IIT-JEE exam had 4 lakh applicants.

The All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) saw about 10 lakh applicants. The SBI clerical entrance test is in a different league – with about 3.4 million applicants competing for about 11,000 vacancies.

Although the test is common across the country, the vacancies in SBI are spread across its 14 circles. For instance, the bank’s Tamil Nadu circle (covering Tamil Nadu and Puducherry) has about 900 vacancies.

About 1,83,566 aspirants are competing for these 900 posts, writing the exam spread over three Sundays (November 8, 15 and 23).

In Chennai city alone about 67,698 candidates are appearing for this exam in 23 venues. Over 5,000 SBI staff will be involved in facilitating this recruitment exercise which will be run by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS).
