Hyderabad, Nov. 8 It is ‘overseas calling’ for the Bangalore-based, Narayana Hrudayalaya Group of Hospitals. Its expertise in providing low-cost, hitech, affordable healthcare, especially in heart ailments successfully demonstrated by the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute of Cardiac Sciences, is attracting global attention.

The Government of Mexico has asked the hospital group to help set up a health city. “We are looking for a joint venture partner for the project there. The Government has already shown us land and all help,” said Dr Devi Shetty, Founder Chairman and Director of the Narayana hospitals group.

Similarly, the Government of Malaysia has been very cooperative for setting up a heart hospital. “At present we have an agreement to perform 1,000 heart surgeries, especially for kids with the Malaysian Government,” he told newspersons here on Saturday.

Iraq is another country with whom the Group has an agreement to do 2,500 surgeries a year. However, there are no plans at present to build a hospital there, Dr Shetty said in response to queries.

At present, the Group is providing tele-cardiology to patients in Mauritius, Bangladesh and Malaysia.

“We have a large number of patients from these countries. Sometimes we find that they need not come all the way for treatment and their need can be addressed through tele-cardiology,” he said.

Interestingly, 20 per cent of the total heart patients treated at the hospital group now come from foreign countries.

Of the approximately 80,000 procedures done in India, the hospitals undertakes 12 per cent (about 9,600) overseas cases.

Narayana Hrudayala Group is into developing health cities with a bed-strength of around 5,000, including facilities for heartcare, eye, kidney, cancer etc with the objective of providing low-cost healthcare, he added.
