TCS to hire more trainees

Our Bureau

Mumbai, July 17

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) intends to hire more trainees than experienced hands to its 1.16 lakh strong workforce as part of the endeavour to manage costs.

Mr Ajoyendra Mukherjee, Vice-President and Head, Global HR, said that 60 per cent of all entrants in the current fiscal year would be trainees and the remaining 40 per cent will be experienced professionals.

“By increasing the intake of trainees we want to decrease the average cost per employee, thereby reducing our wage bill. Moreover, we have at our disposal many productivity tools that can be used for improving productivity of both experienced and trainee employees,” he said.

Total employee cost or wage bill for the company is around 55 per cent of overall revenues. In the June quarter last year, the company’s wage bill was about 50 per cent of revenues.

Mr Harit Shah, IT analyst with Angel Broking, says that TCS has more experienced professionals than its peers and so has enough elbowroom for more freshers.
