Back Centre approves aerospace SEZ; Tatas keen to participate

The Tata Group Chairman, Mr Ratan N. Tata, has responded positively to set up a unit at the Aerospace & Precision Engineering SEZ near Hyderabad.

Stating this, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office announced that the Centre has accorded formal approval for establishing an Aerospace SEZ on 250 acres in Ranga Reddy district. Tata Advance Systems Ltd, a company of the Tata Group, has expressed its interest in putting up a production unit to manufacture aerospace and precision engineering systems, a press release said. In addition, aerospace companies such as MTAR Technologies, Zetatek Industries, Ananth Technologies, SEC Industries, S&U MEK Engineers, VEM Technologies, SKM Technologies were keen and have formed a company called Samoha Engineering Industries Ltd.

Through Samoha, these companies want to bid for high value global contracts and take advantage of the Offset Clause in the defence contracts. It intends to avail the advantages of an SEZ, for which they are in discussion with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who reviewed the progress and developments on the aerospace front asked Samoha to change their name to Samuha (which means a cluster of companies), to which the company agreed, the release said.
