Back Raw cotton arrivals dwindle

Coimbatore, April 17 Kappas (raw cotton) arrivals during the fortnight ended April 15 have kept falling. The daily arrivals fell to 42,000 bales as on the second week of this month against the average daily arrivals of 60,000 bales by last month end, according to the South India Cotton Association (SICA) market report.

The arrivals of kappas in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan dwindled to 2,000 bales daily. The average daily arrivals of seeded cotton in Gujarat during the fortnight were 25,000 bales.

Maharashtra has reported the average daily arrival of kappas at 10,000 bales and it was between 6,000 bales and 8,000 bales in Andhra Pradesh.

Prices firm

During the fortnight, the cotton lint prices held firm ground with key varieties, including Sankar-6, Mech-1/H-4, MCU-5 remaining steady. Shankar-6 was being quoted at Rs 21,500-Rs 22,400 per candy spot and V-797 was ruling between Rs 17,300 and Rs 17,500 per candy. Mech-1/H-4 was quoting at Rs 20,600-Rs 21,300 a candy. MCU-5 ruled at Rs 21,500-Rs 22,000 a candy at spot market.
