Back ‘E-commerce to pervade all segments of biz’

Mangalore, March 30 Round-the-clock business operation in the comfort of the house or on the move is what electronic commerce or e-commerce can do to society. E-commerce is likely to pervade all important business segments and business operations in the days ahead, according to Mr B.R. Bhat, General Manager (IT), Corporation Bank.

Delivering the Business Line Club lecture on the topic ‘Leveraging e-business in the competitive environment’ for MBA students at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara (SDM) College of Business Management in Mangalore on Saturday, Mr Bhat said that e-commerce has come here to stay.

“In the days ahead, we would witness more business operations being carried out round the clock, in the comfort of our homes or on the move, from the customer’s perspective. From the business providers’ side, the offerings are expected to be much more innovative, customer-focused so that the entire e-commerce relationship would pave the way for a win-win situation for both,” he said.

Flexibilities

From the perspective of an ordinary user, e-commerce simplifies to a great extent the processes which he otherwise would have had to do in a manual environment. E-commerce provides the customer flexibility on the time and place of operation, mode of payment, mode of deliverables and so on, to name a few.

From the business providers’ perspective, the business stands to improve with larger volumes being absorbed, and faster realisation of payment.

Most commercial segments in the country are already either completely or partially offering e-commerce options to customers, he said.

Tech dependency

It needs to be remembered that the growth of e-commerce is a direct off-shoot of the technological advancement a country makes as the offerings are totally dependent on technology or the electronic capabilities achieved. E-commerce has pervaded most business segments to a very large extent as in the case of domains like banking, airways, railways, commercial establishments and so on, he said.

“Judging by the pace of progression of e-commerce and the technological capabilities at our disposal, there is no doubt that sky is the limit for what could be achieved through e-commerce,” he added.
