Back Power demand to rise in 9 districts Madurai, March 17 The requirement of electricity of the nine southern districts in Tamil Nadu will increase to 13,700 million KWh (kilowatt hour) by 2011-12 and rise further to 21,200 million KWh by 2016-17. Currently, the consumption is around 8,700 million KWh, according to a study prepared by Madras Consultancy Group (MCG), Chennai, for the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The presentation by the Group at a CII meeting on ‘Vision: TN Southern Districts’, held here rece ntly, stressed on the need to build additional capacity installation of 1,150 MW over the next five years and a further 1,700 MW till 2016-17. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board will have to make an investment of around Rs 55,000 crore till the end of 2016-17 to meet the increasing demand, according to Mr G.
