Coimbatore, March 11 The Adyar branch (Chennai) of the Kerala-based South Indian Bank, slated to be inaugurated on March 17, would take the total branch network of the bank to 496, besides making it the 100th branch in Tamil Nadu.

The bank is also planning to open two more branches — at Vadapalani (Chennai) and Dharmapuri near Coimbatore.

Disclosing this to Business Line, the South Indian Bank Chairman, Dr V. A. Joseph, said he would be realising his vision for the bank — 500 branches and a Rs 25,000-crore business — on March 29, when the bank would be inaugurating its 500th branch at Vivek Vihar in New Delhi.

“As on date, we have achieved a total business of Rs 24,500 crore,” he said.

The bank has given offer letters to 125 management graduates during the current year. “These candidates are in the final semester of their programme and are expected to join after completing the course. We have also picked 300 graduates from different institutions. These candidates would start their career as clerical staff and in a span of two years promoted to the officer’s cadre.

“They will however have to prove their efficiency before promotion. The career progression is rather quick here,” he said.

To a query on clerical staff, he said “We do not require clerical staff, because our entire branch network has now come under CBS. The freshers are trained and promoted as officers in two years. During this period they tend to fit both socially and culturally within our organisation.”
