Back Maersk upgrades services; also covers Chennai, Colombo

Kolkata, March 11 Maersk Line, the world’s number one container shipping line, has announced upgradation of its West Asia, Mediterranean and the US East Coast (MECL2) service also covering the Chennai port and the Sri Lankan port of Colombo.

The essence of upgradation will be: A change in port rotation and addition of one vessel to the service. This is expected to improve the transit times to Newark from the South Indian market as well as a number of Mediterranean ports, according to Maersk Line sources.

The port rotation will be: Colombo-Salalah-Jeddah-

Port Said-Algeciras-

Newark-Norfolk-

Savannah- Algeciras-

Gioia Tauro- Jeddah-

Salalah-Chennai.

A total of nine ships (against earlier eight ) of the capacity ranging between 4,000 and 5,000 TEUs are being deployed on the service, the sources add.
