Bangalore, March 3 Apart from the usual names in consulting, investment banks, IT and global management conglomerates, students of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore this year have the option of choosing a career in the real estate sector in the country. “For the first time a few names from the real estate industry, both global and domestic, are participating in the campus placement process this year,” Mr G.K. Nagaraj, spokesperson at the Placement Office, IIM-B, told Business Line.

Over 120 companies will vie for 249 students of the Batch of 2008 during the placement week, kicking off on Tuesday. So far, students have received 75 lateral offers from 125 companies and 103 pre-placement offers, Mr Nagaraj said.

Generally, students keep these offers on hold and decide on their choice of employer during the final placement process. Despite the global economic crisis, MNC banks and IT consulting companies are participating in the recruitment exercise at the Institute, Mr Nagaraj said.

Last year, out of the batch of 233 students, consulting and finance got 32 per cent of the students each, marketing jobs, about 14 per cent of the talent and investment banks nine per cent.
