Back Subsidies must reach farmers directly Agriculture land is becoming increasingly scarce and there is ready market from the manufacturing sector at attractive prices. The advantage of subsidies provided in the Budget should reach the farmers directly. The NFSM launched last year aiming at 4 per cent growth by 2012 should be made a reality. A new calamity for which India is largely unprepared is that of global warming. The high yielding variety seeds that paid rich dividends during Green Revolution might cease to play at high temperatures. R.K.
