Bangalore, Dec. 1 Asia Motor Works (AMW), which makes heavy commercial vehicles, plans to sell about 5,000 trucks during this fiscal and post revenues of about Rs 750 crore.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka, told Business Line that during the recently-concluded equipment and construction fair Excon, the company sold 112 vehicles of 2523 and 2518 tipper models.

He said there is a huge demand for higher tonnage trucks because of a recent Supreme Court order which has banned overloading of trucks. The demand is also fuelled by the economic growth in the country which is in turn driving the growth of the mining and construction industries.

Manufacturing capacity

Mr Bhuwalka said the company’s products are competitively priced and its plant in Bhuj has a capacity of 10,000 trucks and is scalable. Some of its products are priced in the range of Rs 23 lakh-Rs 28 lakh and the company plans to offer more transport solutions soon.

AMW also has a R&D division and a steel press which has a capacity of 45,000 tonnes per annum. It is also working with Durr of Germany for its paint shop solutions. The capacity of the paint shop is 50,000 units per year. Its chasis rolling plant has a capacity of 25,000 tonnes per annum.

Mr Bhuwalka said the 2523 tipper is designed for mining and road applications while the 2518 haulage is an all-purpose vehicle and has a 7-9 per cent enhanced tyre life and gives 15 per cent fuel efficiency.

Mr Bhuwalka said the cabin of its global truck series is equipped with air-conditioning and an audio system.
