Back Shackled PSUs

This refers to the editorial “Power equity” (Business Line, November 29).

When the entire private sector is gearing for a real take-off in power equipment manufacturing and generation, the relatively stronger BHEL is hamstrung by delays in technical advancement and updating of know-how.

The lack of most modern technologies in the power sector would hamper the proper positioning of BHEL at a time when more investments and innovations are expected in the power sector.

If the PSU entity is to keep its head up in the power sector, the government will have to consider giving it more powers and help it adopt and develop cleaner technologies.
