Coimbatore, Oct 30 There is a huge potential for companies in Coimbatore to engage in business activities with Singapore that could also serve as a gateway to South-east Asian countries in the region, according to Mr George Abraham, leader of the visiting business delegation from Singapore to Coimbatore. He said Singapore provided an opportunity not only for trading but also added value to the products it dealt with for marketing in other countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr D. Balasundaram, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCIC) said that despite the high business potential between the Singapore and Coimbatore, the linkages were “not strong or good as it could have been.”

The recent launch of a direct flight between the two cities would open the gateway for tourism and industrial tie-ups. He would like to see a much stronger connection between the engineering companies in Coimbatore and the precision engineering and similar companies in Singapore. Despite its small size, he said Singapore was the “13th largest trading nation in the world” and it moved goods manufactured not only in Singapore but also from other countries. Coimbatore has a lot offer other than textiles and machine tools, Mr Balasundaram added.
