Back India elected member of ISO Council

New Delhi, Sept. 25 India has been elected a member of the International Organisation for Standardisation Council (ISO) for 2008-09.

The elections were held during 30th General Assembly Annual Meeting of ISO at Geneva. The Indian delegation was led by Mr Y.S. Bhave, Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs and consisted of senior officials of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), including its Director General, Mr Sayan Chatterjee.

The Council decides on policy issues relating to formulation of ISO standards, quality verification system, identifying needs of standardisation of developing countries. The BIS is a founder member of ISO and represents Indian interests on the international body.
