Infrastructure needs: The Union Minister of State for Commerce, Mr Jairam Ramesh, examining the quality of rose at the Dewlieh horticultural farm in Umsning in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district, 60 km from Guwahati on Tuesday. Mr Ramesh, on a two-day visit to Meghalaya, took stock of the infrastructure facility available in Dawki from where 150 trucks carry coal to Bangladesh every day and also horticultural crops. Meghalaya, situated at an altitude of 3200 ft above sea level, is considered a suitable place for flowers and a variety of fruits. The State produces over 20 lakh stems a year and a majority of these roses are exported to Europe and Dubai. –
