Back Onam Week celebrations to begin from Aug 24

This year’s ‘Onam Week’ celebrations in Kerala will begin on August 24. The Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, will inaugurate the celebrations at a function to be held at the Chandrasekharan Nair stadium in the city.

Announcing this at a press conference in the cityon Friday, the State Tourism Minister, Mr Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, said that the State Government has sanctioned Rs. 1.25crore for the celebrations being organised in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode and 10 other district headquarters.

In Thiruvananthapuram, the Chandrasekharan Nair stadium will be the hub of the ‘Onam Week’ celebrations. Mega-shows by various Malayalam satellite television channels will be a highlight of this year’s event, he said.
