Back Mega gas power stations
With RIL K-G basin gas flowing from 2008 and doubling in 2009, ONGC K-G basin gas likely from 2012 and Mahanadi gas also to be available within three years, would it not be fair to plan ultra-mega-power plants of 4,000 MW capacity with 600/800 MW T-G units to run on gas in coastal areas for cheap and cleaner power in addition to those already planned for setting up in pit-heads and coastal areas that are to run on imported coal? Based on fuel resources, power planning in the Twelfth Plan needs a relook, placing greater emphasis on power generation from gas. The targets in the Eleventh Plan have been minimal in this respect.
