Back Affirmative action
“India Inc offers job training, stipend” (Business Line, July 15) is good news. Assocham’s proposal of one per cent cess on corporate annual profits for providing elementary education to people belonging to the backward classes is good. This should be taken advantage of to provide quality education to the poor and deprived children. Training can solve the problem of paucity of skilled workers. More cooperation and coordination among industry, educational institutions and government is needed. If the corporates voluntarily take affirmative action, where is the question of government intervention?
