Our Bureau

Mangalore, July 16 Movement of goods trains has been restored on the Hassan-Mangalore line.

The operation of goods trains was stopped on July 8 following a landslip at a location 65 km away from Hassan station.

Sources in the Hassan-Mangalore Rail Development Company Ltd (HMRDC) told Business Line that the line was reopened for freight traffic on July 13 after the Mysore division of South Western Railway (SWR) cleared the landslip.

In one of the major landslips in recent times, earth piled up on 200 metres of the railway line on July 8, affecting the movement of goods trains.

It is said that the landslip was caused by heavy rainfall in the region.

Speed limits

Sources said that strict speed restrictions have been implemented for goods trains at vulnerable locations on the railway line.

The speed limit has been brought down from 35 kmph to 10 kmph at vulnerable locations on the Hassan-Mangalore line.
