New Delhi June 6 French rolling stock major Alstom has bagged a Rs 255-crore contract from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to design, manufacture, supply, install and commission the train control and signalling system for Delhi Metro's two phases.

Alstom Transport's President, Mr Philippe Mellier, on his first visit to India, said that he expects the demand for metros or urban transportation systems in Indian market to be higher than the annual average growth in Asia Pacific metro market (of 6.8 per cent) in 2005-15.

Big investment

"In the next five years the transport sector of India is expected to witness a total investment of 62 billion," Mr Mellier, said in a statement.

In India, Alstom is eyeing business from the urban transportation market in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
