LOWER OUTPUT ESTIMATE: A grower tending his vanilla crop near Munnar in Kerala's Idukki district. Vanilla prices are expected to increase by 10 per cent this year owing to a decline in the production in Madagascar, the largest producer of vanilla beans in the world. However, global demand for vanilla is expected to be 1,500 tonnes against an estimated production of 2,000 tonnes.
