Chennai April 17 The Chennai-based Lifeline Group plans to invest Rs 100 crore in upgrading its hospitals and in acquiring more hospitals. The group is examining the feasibility of buying two in the North East, Dr J.S. Rajkumar, Chairman, Lifeline Group, told a press conference here on Tuesday.

The group, which has 15 corporate centres and four hospitals in the city, plans to expand its operations in other verticals such as stem cell research and a chain of pharmacies.

Dr Rajkumar also announced todaythat the group had acquired a hospital at Madipakkam in Chennai. The hospital, which will be renamed `Lifeline Hospital Madipakkam', will provide community healthcare and homecare services.

He said the initial investment in the hospital would be around Rs 4 crore, which will be used to create the infrastructure needed. "There will also be an additional investment of Rs 2-3 crore in the second phase," Dr Rajkumar said. This investment would enable all the four Lifeline hospitals to be connected through telemedicine so that patients in all the four hospitals can be monitored from Lifeline Multi Speciality Hospital, Perungudi.
