Kolkata April 16 Following Tata Motors' petition to the Calcutta High Court seeking its intervention to regain possession of dyes and components from Hindustan Motors' (HM) Uttarpara plant, the latter has urged the State Government to provide requisite support to ensure transfer of these materials.

Besides manufacturing Ambassador cars, the Uttarpara plant also supplies spare parts to HM's OEM (original equipment manufacturer) customers, including Tata Motors, Ford and General Motors. Labour unrest at Uttarpara plant has affected production and supply of these spare parts.

"It has not been possible to remove these materials in safety and security due to the prevailing situation at the Hindustan Motors' plant," a spokesperson of Tata Motors said.

In its petition, Tata Motors has sought directions from the court to appoint a special officer to supervise removal of the dies and components from the Uttarpara plant and provide police protection and assistance for the purpose.

"These dyes and toolings are the property of the OEM customers and Hindustan Motors is liable to return it to them. Hindustan Motors has requested for support and necessary advice from the administration and police authorities in carrying out the transfer and return of toolings," a HM release said.
