Back Fresh incidents at HM plant

The law and order situation at Hindustan Motors' Uttarpara plant continues to be "disconcerting" following fresh incidents of violence and blockade at the gates, according to a HM release. "A small group of workers are able to harass 2,100 plus employees reporting for duty and prevent an additional 1,000-plus employees from joining duty," the release said.

According to Ms Soni Shrivastav, General Manager of Corporate Communication, CK Birla Group, "If the blockade of material continues it will threaten the very existence of the (Uttarpara) unit." Mr Amitava Bhattacharyya, President of Sangrami Shramik Karmachari Union, one of the five registered trade unions at HM, said, "A majority of the people coming to the factory are outsiders and not employees of Hindustan Motors. We will continue to prevent the entry of these outsiders into the factory premise," he added.
