New Delhi March 13 ONGC on Tuesday received Rs 864 crore towards final and overall payment of all insurance claims for the BHN accident against the corporation's offshore package. In a statement, the company said that with this settlement, the total amount received toward the BHN accident loss works out to Rs 1,700 crore. The BHN accident took place in July 2005, causing a major fire which totally destroyed the platform, while multipurpose support vessel Samudra Surkasha, which sustained major damages, sank in early August. The heat and smoke of the BHN fire partially affected other installations like the BHF platform, interconnecting bridges of MNW and BHF platform, sub-sea pipelines, the statement added. The offshore properties damaged in the accident were insured with United India Insurance Company (UIIC).
