Thiruvananthapuram Feb. 21 Encouraged by the performance of existing units in its business incubation centre, T-Bic, Technopark Thiruvananthapuram is preparing to expand this facility.

According to Mr N. Radhakrishnan Nair, CEO, Technopark Thiruvananthapuram, 10,000 square feet of space will be set aside for T-Bic in Thejaswini, the park's new building which is to be inaugurated on Thursday. This will be in addition to the approximately 8,000 square feet of space that T-Bic now occupies in the Technopark's administrative complex, he added.

In a little over two years, 35-odd companies have operated from T-Bic. Only five of these have failed, Mr Nair said. All the others have succeeded and some have grown so much that they have moved out, he declared. In fact, several units from T-Bic have leased space in the new Thejaswini building.

The Technopark authorities and the State Government want to use the business incubation centre to encourage entrepreneurship, especially in the knowledge sector, in Kerala, he explained. The plan is to encourage students in Kerala's universities and also non-resident Keralites to become entrepreneurs and start operations at T-Bic.

Many professionals working in Kerala and outside the State have "bright business and technical ideas," but do not have the resources to invest in a business venture. T-Bic is the perfect solution for such would-be entrepreneurs as it offers plug-and-play facilities. It offers all the infrastructure required by a business, from power and air-conditioning to furniture and security, he added.
