Back Proposals invited for insurance coverage in tsunami-hit areas R.Y. Narayanan
The approximate number of persons to be covered under the proposal would be 2.50 lakh in about 3,000 SHGs. While 80 per cent of the insurance premium would be paid by the project, the balance should be borne by the beneficiaries. In the invitation for sealed quotation for insurance coverage, the CMA has said the insurance companies should give their best offer for premium per year based on the following coverage - death due to accident (Rs 50,000), loss of one limb (Rs 25,000), loss of one limb and one eye (Rs 50,000), permanent total disablement (Rs 50,000), hospital/mediclaim expenses covering medicine, consultation and hospitalisation (Rs 10,000), maternity expenses (Rs 1,000 for first two children after insurance) and education/tuition fees/books (Rs 5,000 per child subject to a maximum of Rs 10,000). The policies should cover a unit of 1+4 members spouse, children and dependents. The maximum time for processing claims should be 30 days. The notification has asked for details of the number of certified medical centres in the six municipalities - Kattivakkam, Thiruvottiyur, Cuddealore, Nagapattinam, Vedaranyam and Colachel. The project would contribute 80 per cent of the cost of premium for one-year policies. The balance premium cost to be borne by the beneficiary should be collected by the insurance firm with the assistance of respective ULBs. This amount may be collected from the bank account of SHGs. A pre-bid conference would be held on February 23 at the CMA's office in Chennai and March 8 is the last date for submission of quotation.
