Bangalore, Feb. 9

Nokia has selected the Germany-based semiconductor firm Infineon Technologies as a supplier of baseband and RF (Radio frequency) chips for its GSM range of mobiles.

Infineon's single-chip E-GOLD voice will be incorporated in select future entry-level phones from Nokia. Infineon's E-GOLD voice system-on-chip solution combines a baseband processor, radio frequency transceiver, power management unit and RAM in a footprint measuring just 8 mm x 8 mm. The solution is designed for voice-centric phones with features such as colour display, text messages, MP3 quality ring tones and applications such as integrated hands-free and speaking clock.
