Back Thomson Corp opens second centre in India

Thomson Corporation, the $8.52 billion information services company, has set up a Global Services Delivery Centre (GSDC) in Hyderabad, the second in India, after Bangalore. It will have 50 employees to begin with. By the end of 2009, plans are to make it 1,000-strong.

The Hyderabad GSDC would serve as a multi-functional shared service centre for Thomson. It will support the company's global operations by providing knowledge-based services to its businesses. The company specialises in providing information products for decision makers.

While not disclosing the investment plans for the GSDC, Mr Pradeep Lankapalli, Vice-President, Shared Services and Head of the Hyderabad GSDC, said the focus would be on financial services, accounting, law, taxation, healthcare and scientific research. "These businesses have a combined global market size of $80 billion," he told newspersons here on Monday.

Thomson Corporation India was launched in Bangalore in 1994 and could be described as one of the first Knowledge Process Outsourcing Centre. It has 2,200 employees and provides product development, content and software technology.
