Back Cane farmers want hike in procurement price

The Tamil Nadu Sugarcane Farmers' Association has demanded an increase in the procurement price of sugarcane to Rs 1,250 a tonne from Rs 1,025 per tonne.

According to the State President, Mr N. Palanisamy, the recent increase of Rs 11 per tonne announced by the State Government is inadequate. It would not help to meet the increasing cost of fertiliser, labour charges and cutting charges.

He further demanded the setting up of an ethanol unit within the premises of the National Co-operative Sugar Mills at Alanganallur.
