BHEL focus on raw materials purchase

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) was laying emphasis on consolidated procurement of raw materials required for each project in a sequential and timely manner so that project completion was streamlined and expedited, its Director (Engineering and R&D), Mr C.P. Singh, has said.

The company has to focus on innovative methods to speed up procurement, reduce costs and ensure timely supply of raw materials in view of the massive increase in the quantum of inputs that will be required during the 11th Plan period, Mr. Singh said at a conference of BHEL materials management heads here.

While decentralisation had improved the purchase process, materials management was becoming an increasingly complex function in view of the thousands of suppliers that BHEL had to depend on for raw materials and the constant need to reduce procurement costs. He called for a thorough review of BHEL's existing purchase and works policiesby the materials management heads .
