PRICES SURGE: Cumin seeds being packed at a retail shop in Kochi. Owing to its diverse use, 90 per cent of the nearly two lakh tonnes of cumin produced in the country is absorbed in domestic market, making India its biggest consumer. Demand, both domestic and exports, has seen cumin prices rise to Rs 8,250 a quintal from Rs 6,850 at the beginning of the year.
