Back Science congress from Jan 3 Our Bureau
Chennai , Nov. 1 The 94th Indian Science Congress (ISC) will be held from January 3 at the Annamalai University in Chidambaram. The five-day event is to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, said Dr Harsh Gupta, General President, ISC-2007. The theme of the event is `Planet Earth'. "We want to create awareness about the deteriorating environmental conditions on Earth and how we can protect it from potential hazards," said Dr Gupta. Some of the areas covered in the event would include mineral resources, water resources, natural hazards, nano technology, biotechnology, agriculture and bio resources. Briefing presspersons here on the event, he said that ISC would host technical sessions, lectures and panel discussions on topics such as environment protection and energy security besides having stalls and exhibitions showcasing the latest research work in government and private sectors.
The event will also have a separate section called `Children's Science Congress', to be inaugurated by the President, Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, where school students will be allowed to interact with experts, listen to lectures and visit stalls. Over 6,000 scientists, 10,000 business visitors and over two lakh general visitors are expected to participate in the event, said Dr Gupta.
