Back KMML-ISRO tie up for titanium sponge Our Bureau
Joint venture With this, India would become the seventh country in the world to manufacture titanium sponge. ISRO requires huge quantities of titanium alloys and sponge for use in launch vehicles.
Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 29 Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd (KMML), leading manufacturers of rutile grade titanium dioxide in the country, is taking up production of titanium sponge in association with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). KMML and ISRO signed a memorandum of understanding in January 2006 for setting up a plant for the manufacture of titanium sponge. As per the MoU, the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) will make available Rs 95 crore for the plant. The Kerala Industries Minister, Mr Elamaram Kareem, told newspersons here on Friday that the titanium sponge plant was part of KMML's efforts to produce value-added products.
