Back Cabinet okays container scanners procurement Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct 27 The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for procurement of four fixed X-ray and three mobile gamma ray container scanners at a cost of Rs 172.94 crore through a global tender. The scanners will be installed at Mumbai, Chennai, Tuticorin and Kandla ports, said a release. The Cabinet decision for installation of container scanners will assist the Customs Department in its statutory functions, which is the collection of Customs duties and other levies as well as the prevention or detection of movement of contraband goods across the country's international borders. The non-intrusive inspection of cargo by container scanners will reveal discrepancies between the declaration made in the prescribed documents and the cargo actually stuffed inside the containers, the release added.
