Back Talks on to tackle data theft

New Delhi , Oct. 12

Commenting on the issue of data theft and the renewed focus on protection measures, Mr John Fennerty, Deputy Economic Counsellor, US Embassy in New Delhi, said a dialogue was now on at the government-to-government level to evolve a mechanism to tackle the problem.

Speaking against over-regulation, he said a good part of the initiatives towards such data protection will have to come from the companies themselves.

He said a designated agency may be given the job of talking to the Indian Government, as the key concerns have emanated from India companies and not those in the US. He expected a result within the next six months or so. He also clarified that data protection issues were not restricted to just IT companies alone.
