Work on the proposed Socorro Information Technology Park in north Goa has come to a halt following an assurance given by the State Government to the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court stating that no activity would be taken up.

The assurance was given by the Government through the Advocate-General, Mr Subodh Kantak, in response to a writ petition filed in the court by an NGO Goa Foundation alleging that it would be unlawful to locate the said park at the site as it is `within or next' to a private forest identified or carved out for protection by an earlier Supreme Court order.

Land acquisition

Work of land acquisition is in process for the proposed IT park which is one of the IT projects mooted by the State Minister for IT, Mr Dayanand Narvekar.

In their petition, the Goa Foundation and Mr Dinesh Dias and Mr Anaceto Martins had prayed for a writ quashing the decisions relating to development on the proposed land in the villages of Soccor and Salvador do Mundo in north Goa.
