Mumbai, Oct. 4

The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is setting up an Apparel International Mart in Gurgaon, consisting over 400 showrooms, at a cost of Rs 60 crore.

The mart will be a one-stop sourcing venue for foreign buyers with the showrooms displaying Indian apparels. Mr Vijay Agarwal, Chairman, AEPC, said: "Besides the US and the EU, we plan to target East Europe, South East Asia and Latin America. The idea of the mart is built on the concept of apparel parks set up by the Government. Apparel parks are for manufacturing while the mart is for marketing and branding." The apparel mart should be operational by January 2007.
