Rising demand for maize for food, feed and industrial purpose (starch) has tightened supplies and prices. Currently, maize prices are ruling around Rs 1,300 a quintal, up from Rs 800 a quintal on demand and low stocks. However, the Centre has stepped in to help the poultry sector by offering maize from its stocks at Rs 450 a quintal.
