ONE OF THE STALLS AT THE CONNECT 2006 EXPO IN CHENNAI

Chennai , Sept. 8

The importance of note taking could not be emphasised better. While reporters at Connect 2006 - a conference and exhibition on the information technology and communication sectors organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry - were seen with paper notepads, a few stalls at the venue had PCs and laptops, specially supporting note-taking capability.

The Hewlett Packard stall featured the recently launched Tablet PC.

The 1.8 kg tablet comes with a dual core processor and can be connected to notebook accessories like memory devices, wireless support, communications devices and other computer peripherals.

For the security lovers, there is a finger print identification system that allows access to about three user logins per tablet.

Worried about peeping toms? The tablet PC comes with a unique screen (filter) that can be viewed only at 90 degree angle. So if anyone tried to copy your notes over your elbow, all he would see is a blank screen.

On the software side, the Microsoft stall showcased the Notes software. Using Notes, one can draw, write or just scribble away on your tablet PC screen. For those without tablets, this works on the good old keyboard too. One can drag and drop texts, pictures or clips on to the notes page.

For those who take copious notes and cannot seem to locate anything in them, a search option will come in handy. You can share notes online and integrate it with other MS Office programmes. And if you want to show off your note taking abilities, just take some print outs of them.
