Asian markets up

MUMBAI: Asian stocks rose on Thursday driven by gains in technology shares, while the US dollar edged further away from recent peaks after an unexpected drop in home sales.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 167.65 points or 1.62 per cent at 10,545.68.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 256.35 points or 1.2 per cent at 21,585.09.

Singapore’s Straits Times was up 1.85 points or 0.07 per cent at 2,843.41.

South Korea’s Kospi was up 21.69 points or 1.31 per cent at 1,683.04.

Australia’s S&P/Asx 200 was up 49.8 points or 1.05 per cent at 4,790.90.

China’s Shanghai Composite rose 57.43 points or 1.87 per cent at 3,131.21.

Taiwan’s Taiex was up 78.63 points or 1 per cent at 7,980.13. — Agencies
